Some Older Views of Wilton's Main Street

(Left) The Old Fire Station

(Right) Main Street, Looking West, circa 1900

Two Views of the Whiting House Hotel, circa 1870.  The first  is the Main Street side, looking east; the second is the Maple Street side, also looking east. This Hotel stood where the Town Hall now stands.  It was burned to the ground in the first great Main Street Fire of December 2 1874

The other hotel on Main Street, the Everett House, which was demolished in 1948.  There is some evidence that this building replaced an earlier hotel on the site, the Jones Hotel, likely also burned down in the 1874 fire.  For some time in the early 20th century, it was known as the Wilton Inn; by the late 1920's it was called the Souhegan Inn; later it was re-named the Everett House and remained so until it was taken down.
