Renovations at the Library

The renovation work continues on the architectural jewel of Wilton: The Wilton Public & Gregg Free Library. The library was a gift to the town by David A. Gregg in 1908. One hundred years later it is still one of the most magnificent public buildings in this state and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Time has taken its toll and the building needs tender loving care. Thanks to ongoing public and private donations, the beautiful rotunda floor was restored in 2003, the windows in the children’s room were repaired, the slate roof has been repaired, external bricks were re-pointed and masonry has been repaired. Exciting work is ongoing in the Luther Gregg Sullivan Room (formerly the non-fiction stack room). Wall stencils have been revealed, the cornice has been cleaned, the ceiling repainted, the red birch floor restored, windows have been replaced or repaired and lighting will be updated. This room is the home of the director’s office , the non-fiction collection, and a quiet reading area. Visit this section of our website frequently to follow our progress.
