***COMING SOON***

Additional lighting will be installed in the McLean room.  Also, updated lighting will be added to the rotunda soon.

The meeting room on the lower level will soon be renovated.  This will include plastering and painting the walls and

ceiling as well as resurfacing the floor. When this work is complete, an air handling system will be installed.

***Circulation Room***

The circulation room has been updated.  New lighting and fresh paint on the ceiling and walls along

with new carpeting completes the renovation in that room.

***Rare Book/Technical Services Room***

The Rare Book/Technical Services room has also been updated with new lighting and paint on the walls and ceiling.

The linoleum was removed and the floor has been carpeted to match the circulation room floor.

***The McLean Room***

The original children's room has been restored and reopened as the McLean Room in April, 2008.  The florescent lighting was removed and new lighting added to resemble the original gas light which was present when the building was first opened.  The ceiling was patched, a skim coat applied then painted. The original ceiling stenciling was restored. The walls and cove areas were cleaned and repaired.  The woodwork was cleaned and the linoleum floor (circa 1930's) was removed to reveal the original birch floor.  This room was restored with funds from the McLean Contributionship.

 ***IN THE SPRING of 2008***

The rotunda dome, oculus, walls, columns, and woodwork have all been cleaned.  The plywood which has been protecting the mosaic tile floor for three years has been removed.  The work will be completed in the spring with the updating of the rotunda lighting.

***FALL 2007 UPDATES***

The restoration of the grand front foyer and staircase has been completed.  Conservators removed paint from walls to

reveal the nearly century old stenciling and murals.  The woodwork was refurbished and the floors were refinished.

The original lighting has been restored and reinstalled.

***APRIL 2007 UPDATES***

The Hard Hat Tours during National Library Week  were a big success.  Dozens of people took part in the tours and learned about the changes in the library.  When this work is done, the library will have an elevator which will make all three floors accessible to all; new public bathrooms; a teledata room; updated plumbing and new wiring.  This phase of the work is expected to be complete by early Summer, 2007.  While the work is going on, the library will remain open but some services may be limited. Details on the way the day to day activities will be affected will be published here as the information becomes available.   Watch this section of the website for postings of  tour pictures and of the present work
