Additional lighting will be installed in the McLean room. Also, updated lighting will be added to the rotunda soon.
The meeting room on the lower level will soon be renovated. This will include plastering and painting the walls and
ceiling as well as resurfacing the floor. When this work is complete, an air handling system will be installed.
The circulation room has been updated. New lighting and fresh paint on the ceiling and walls along
with new carpeting completes the renovation in that room.
The Rare Book/Technical Services room has also been updated with new lighting and paint on the walls and ceiling.
The linoleum was removed and the floor has been carpeted to match the circulation room floor.
The original children's room has been restored and reopened as the McLean Room in April, 2008. The florescent lighting was removed and new lighting added to resemble the original gas light which was present when the building was first opened. The ceiling was patched, a skim coat applied then painted. The original ceiling stenciling was restored. The walls and cove areas were cleaned and repaired. The woodwork was cleaned and the linoleum floor (circa 1930's) was removed to reveal the original birch floor. This room was restored with funds from the McLean Contributionship.
The rotunda dome, oculus, walls, columns, and woodwork have all been cleaned. The plywood which has been protecting the mosaic tile floor for three years has been removed. The work will be completed in the spring with the updating of the rotunda lighting.
The restoration of the grand front foyer and staircase has been completed. Conservators removed paint from walls to
reveal the nearly century old stenciling and murals. The woodwork was refurbished and the floors were refinished.
The original lighting has been restored and reinstalled.
***SUMMER 2006 UPDATES***
- May - July, 2006: Continue pre-construction design work with the architects, and the mechanical and electrical systems engineers
- The construction management team of MacMillin Building Forward, Keene, NH has been selected to work with the building committee and the architects.
- Late summer, 2006: Pending final design approval, prepare site for work on mechanical and electrical systems and prepare for preliminary work on the lift
- Fall, 2006: Drainage upgrades at the back of the library as well as around the library perimeter.
- Fall, 2006: Replacement of the boiler.
- Spring, 2007: Begin work on the lift, electrical upgrades throughout the building and construct new bathrooms.

- New ceiling fixtures are in place and additional lighting has been ordered for the bookcases. Steve Collins, Collins Electric, Wilton

- Window woodwork has been cleaned and primed Bobby Nields
- Painting of the window woodwork has been finished - Conservator Will Perkins, Ipswich, MA
- Cornice has been cleaned and restored - Conservator Chris Thompson, Lexington, MA
- Beige paint has been removed from the walls Conservator Will Perkins
- Inpainting of the walls has been finished Conservators Will Perkins and Whitney Carpenter, Wilton, NH
- Footprint of the office kiosk has been delivered by the cabinetmaker, Ed Reinish, Manchester, NH
- The kiosk has been completely assembled and is in place as the office for the director.
- Books and bookcases haven been moved to their permanent location.
- Steve Collins wired the office kiosk and installed other lighting in the Luther Gregg Sullivan room.
- Andy Roeper of CWR Marketing, Lyndeborough, has installed the computer and printer for the director's office.
